Overview
MyResumeExpert ("we", "us", "our") operates the website at myresumeexpert.com and related services (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, share, and safeguard your personal information when you use our Service.
By using MyResumeExpert, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the Service.
Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Account data — your email address and password, or the name, email, and profile picture Google shares with us if you choose Google sign-in.
- Profile photo (optional) — if you upload one in Settings or the resume editor. We crop it to a small square image and store it encrypted. It is shown on your account and on resume templates that have a photo, and is never sent to our AI features.
- Resume content — everything you upload or type into your resumes: contact details, work history, education, skills, projects, certifications, and any other sections. This includes the resume files (PDF or DOCX) you upload and the text we read from them.
- Job descriptions — text you paste into Job Match to compare against your resume.
- Payment details — payments are handled by our payment provider, Stripe. We receive the status, amount, and a reference for your purchase, never your card number.
- Communications — messages you send to our support or privacy email addresses.
Information Collected Automatically
- Operational data — requests to our servers, IP address, browser type, and timestamps, used to run and secure the Service.
- Usage counters — for example how many uploads, AI actions, and downloads an account has made, so we can apply fair-use limits.
- Cookies — only essential cookies for sign-in and security (see the Cookies section).
Information from Third Parties
- Google — if you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture, subject to Google's own privacy policy.
- Stripe — confirmation of payments and refunds for your purchases.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account and sign you in securely.
- Read the resume you upload, fill your editor with its details, and show you a live preview.
- Generate and let you download your resume as PDF or DOCX.
- Provide AI-assisted features you ask for: importing a resume, Job Match reviews, and rewriting suggestions. When you use one of these, the text of your resume (and any job description you pasted) is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, which processes it only to return the result to us.
- Process payments and apply the plan and access you purchased.
- Send service emails such as email verification and password reset links.
- Respond to support and privacy requests.
- Detect, prevent, and investigate fraud, abuse, and misuse of usage limits.
- Comply with applicable legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your resume content to train AI models, and we do not allow our AI provider to use it for that purpose.
Data Sharing
We share data only in limited circumstances:
- Service providers — vendors who process data on our behalf and may use it only to provide their service to us: Supabase (accounts, database, and file storage), Vercel and Railway (hosting), Anthropic (AI processing), Stripe (payments), and ImprovMX (forwarding of emails sent to our support and privacy addresses). If you choose Google sign-in, Google also processes your sign-in.
- Legal compliance — when required by law, court order, or governmental authority.
- Safety — to protect the rights, property, or safety of MyResumeExpert, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers — if we merge, are acquired, or transfer assets, your data may be transferred. We will notify you beforehand.
- With your consent — for any other purpose with your explicit permission.
Data Retention
- Uploaded resume files and the text extracted from them — deleted automatically within 24 hours.
- Saved resumes, versions, and reports — kept until you delete them or your account.
- Profile photo — kept until you remove it in Settings or delete your account.
- Exported files — expire after 24 hours; download links work for only a short time.
- Free scans without an account — tied to a guest session that lasts up to 7 days.
- Product events and feedback — deleted after 30 days. AI usage counters — deleted after 90 days.
- Payment records — kept as long as needed for tax, accounting, and fraud-prevention purposes.
You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Data & Privacy → Delete my account permanently. Your saved resumes, reports, profile photo, and extracted text are erased right away and the sign-in record is then removed by an automated process. Anything that remains in backups is overwritten within 30 days, except where we must keep it for legal or fraud-prevention reasons.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest by our infrastructure providers, and the text of your resumes and reports, and your profile photo, are additionally encrypted by us before they are stored. Access is restricted to what is needed to run the Service. No method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take our obligations seriously and will notify you as required by law if a breach affects you.
Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction — request correction of inaccurate data.
- Deletion — request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").
- Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.
- Objection / restriction — object to or restrict certain processing.
- Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, withdraw it at any time.
To exercise any right, email us at privacy@myresumeexpert.com. We will respond within 30 days (or as required by applicable law). You can also delete your account yourself at any time in Settings → Data & Privacy.
Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a minor has provided us data, contact us at privacy@myresumeexpert.com and we will delete it promptly.
International Transfers
Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries other than the one where you live, including the countries where our service providers operate. We rely on standard contractual clauses and other appropriate mechanisms to ensure adequate protection where required.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email (to your registered address) or by a prominent notice in the Service at least 14 days before the change takes effect. Your continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
