How to Write a Resume for Campus Placement
By the MyResumeExpert Team · Updated October 3, 2026 · 3 min read
During placement season, recruiters often go through hundreds of resumes from the same college in a few hours. Students with similar degrees and marks compete for the same roles, so the resume that shows clear skills, real projects and a tidy layout gets the interview.
This guide covers the format placement recruiters expect and how to stand out within it.
Placement resume format
Many placement cells provide a standard template. If yours does, follow it exactly. If not, use a clean one-page layout in this order:
- Name, phone, college email, LinkedIn and GitHub or portfolio
- A two-line objective naming the role you want
- Education: degree, college, CGPA, year; then 12th and 10th with board, percentage and year
- Internships and training
- Projects
- Technical skills
- Certifications, achievements and positions of responsibility
Tip: Keep it to one page. If you have more than fits, cut weaker projects before shrinking the font below 10 pt.
Present your academics honestly and clearly
- Show CGPA to two decimals, out of 10, for example "CGPA: 8.42/10".
- Many companies set eligibility criteria on 10th, 12th and graduation marks, so include all three in a small table or list.
- If you have cleared backlogs, do not hide them when asked: placement records are checked. Focus attention on projects and skills instead.
- Add relevant coursework only if it matches the role, for example Data Structures, DBMS and Operating Systems for software roles.
Projects: your strongest evidence
For most students, projects matter more than marks. Choose two or three that match the role and write them like work experience: what you built, the technology, and a measurable result or scale.
WeakOnline shopping website using Java.
StrongBuilt an e-commerce web app in Java Spring Boot and MySQL with cart, payments sandbox and admin dashboard; load-tested to 500 concurrent users.
Shows stack, features and scale.
WeakML project on house prices.
StrongTrained a gradient-boosting model to predict house prices from 20,000 listings (R² 0.89); deployed it as a Flask API with a simple web front end.
Data size, metric and deployment make it credible.
Tip: Link each project to GitHub or a live demo, and make sure the repository has a clear README. Recruiters do click.
Skills that placement recruiters scan for
Group your skills and keep only what you can answer questions about in a technical interview.
Languages: Java, Python, C++ Web: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React Databases: MySQL, MongoDB Tools: Git, Linux, VS Code Core: Data Structures and Algorithms, OOP, DBMS, Computer Networks
For non-tech roles, focus on tools such as Excel, Tally, Power BI or Canva, plus languages and domain skills.
Achievements and positions of responsibility
Hackathon results, coding contest ranks, NSS or NCC, sports, college fest teams and student society roles show initiative and teamwork. Add one line each with a concrete outcome.
Technical Head, Coding Club (2025–26): organised 6 contests with 1,200+ participants; mentored 40 juniors in DSA.

Frequently asked questions
- Should I include 10th and 12th marks on a placement resume?
- Yes. Many campus recruiters set eligibility cut-offs on 10th, 12th and graduation marks, so list all three with the board or university and year.
- How many projects should a fresher resume have?
- Two or three strong, relevant projects are better than many small ones. Describe each with the technology used and a concrete result.
- Can I use a two-page resume for placements?
- Stick to one page unless your placement cell says otherwise. Recruiters review many resumes quickly and expect a concise page.
- Should I mention backlogs on my resume?
- Do not list them as a highlight, but never misstate your record when a form or recruiter asks: placement data is verified.
