How to Write a Resume as a Fresher (No Experience Needed)
By the MyResumeExpert Team · Updated October 3, 2026 · 3 min read
As a fresher or recent graduate, you are not expected to have years of experience. Employers want to see potential: what you studied, what you built, how you work with others and how quickly you learn.
This guide shows how to turn education, projects, internships and activities into a resume that competes with candidates who have more experience.
The best resume format for freshers
Use a clean, one-page, reverse-chronological layout with education near the top:
- Name and contact details (phone, email, city, LinkedIn, GitHub or portfolio)
- Career objective or short summary
- Education
- Projects
- Internships or work experience
- Skills
- Certifications, achievements and activities
Our student resume templates are designed for exactly this order.
Write a focused objective
Two or three lines that name the role you want and the strengths you bring. Avoid generic phrases such as "seeking a challenging position in a reputed organisation".
WeakTo work in a reputed organisation where I can utilise my skills and grow with the company.
StrongElectronics engineering graduate with hands-on experience in embedded C and IoT prototyping. Seeking a graduate engineer role where I can build reliable sensor systems.
Names the field, the skills and the target role.

Make your education section work harder
- Degree, specialisation, institution and graduation year (or expected year).
- Your grade, CGPA or percentage if it is strong.
- Relevant coursework that matches the job, for example "Data Structures, Database Systems, Machine Learning".
- Academic awards, scholarships or rankings.
- A final-year project, thesis or dissertation with a one-line result.
B.Tech in Computer Science, ABC Institute of Technology — 2026 CGPA: 8.6/10 · Relevant coursework: Data Structures, DBMS, Operating Systems, Machine Learning Final-year project: Built a crop-disease detection app (TensorFlow, Flutter) with 91% accuracy on a test set of 2,000 images.
Use projects as your experience
Projects are your strongest evidence. For each one, write a title, the tools you used and two or three bullet points that show what you built and the outcome.
WeakMade a website for college fest.
StrongBuilt the college fest website in React and Firebase, handling 3,000 registrations and online payments over two weeks with no downtime.
WeakDid a project on sales data.
StrongAnalysed two years of sales data for a local retailer in Excel and Power BI, identifying slow-moving stock worth ₹2.4 lakh.
Tip: Link to your GitHub, portfolio or a live demo so recruiters can see your work for themselves.
Internships, part-time jobs and activities
Every kind of experience counts if you describe it well: internships, part-time and freelance work, volunteering, student societies, hackathons and competitions. Use the same format as a job: role, organisation, dates and results.

Fresher resume mistakes to avoid
- Going beyond one page.
- Listing school marks from years ago when you have a degree.
- Adding a photo, date of birth, religion or father’s name unless the employer asks for them.
- Including a "Declaration" paragraph at the end; it adds nothing.
- Listing skills you cannot demonstrate in an interview.
- Using an unprofessional email address.
